Formation of Prenovitiate Formators on Psycho-Sexual Integration: A Transformative Five-Day Training Programme

Dimapur, 20 January 2024: A comprehensive five-day training programme focusing on psycho-sexual integration for formators of pre-novitiates and postulancy commenced on 15 January 2024, at the Don Bosco Provincial House, Dimapur. The inaugural Eucharist, presided over by Rev Fr Jose Kuruvachira SDB, the Salesian Provincial of Dimapur Province, marked the commencement of this transformative journey.

Rev Fr Nazarius Lakra, the Vice Provincial, extended a warm welcome and inaugurated the training programme, setting the stage for an insightful exploration of psycho-sexual integration. Fr. Robert Pen SDB, the South Asia Coordinator for Salesian Formation, took charge of coordinating the entire programme, ensuring a seamless and enriching experience for all participants.

The esteemed resource person for the event was Fr Johny Nedungatt SDB, renowned author of the book “Formation towards Psychosexual and Celibate Integration” (Volume II – Manual for Formators). The programme witnessed the active participation of 12 Salesians from various Salesian pre-novitiates in India, along with 17 sisters representing various religious congregations actively involved in initial formation. Additionally, Ms. Sheela VDB from INT contributed as a lay partner in the Salesian formation.

The training curriculum included presentations on various chapters of the Manual for Formees, Volume – II, fostering personal reflection, engaging group discussions, and providing clarifications where necessary. Key topics explored during the programme included understanding sexuality as a gift, emotions, sexual abuse and the healing process, and navigating sexual attraction and infatuations.

The programme concluded on 19 January 2024, with a comprehensive evaluation at 7:00 p.m., followed by a heartfelt vote of thanks. The entire event exemplified a commitment to professional development and holistic formation for those entrusted with the responsibility of guiding the next generation of novices.

The Don Bosco Provincial House in Dimapur proudly hosted this impactful initiative, fostering a collaborative environment for intellectual exchange and spiritual growth. The participants were left equipped with valuable insights and a renewed sense of purpose as formators in the Salesian tradition.
